American musical treasure Emmylou Harris will grace the stage in a rare, intimate performance on the inaugural broadcast of the much buzzed-about Music City Roots, Live from the Loveless Café, on Wednesday, October 14th. Airing live on legendary WSM, the show’s producers felt that as an artist, Ms. Harris embodied all that the show endeavors to deliver to its global audience.
Emmylou, as comfortable in a rock setting as she is in folk, country or bluegrass, has become one of the icons for the growing Americana movement, a broad-based category encompassing the vast array of music that has grown from the roots of American history and culture. This music, and the integrity of the artists that have kept it alive, provides the basis for the new show, produced in the great tradition of live music radio that has been such a deep part of WSM’s own remarkable heritage.
Also featured will be Grammy-nominated singer/songwriters Mary Ann Kennedy and Pam Rose. As the acclaimed duo Kennedy Rose, they recorded two CDs for, and toured with Sting, and today enjoy thriving solo careers. They will reunite for the Inaugural Launch and join long time friend Emmylou Harris to perform with her and bassist Chris Donahue.
“The show is the most exciting thing I’ve heard of in this town for quite some time”, says Pamela Rose. “Real radio for real music.”
Each weekly show allows for spontaneity and collaboration in the final segment, appropriately dubbed, “The Loveless Jam”. Who knows what memorable magic the night may provide…
